But only outside of the eigth local government areas that are in locked.

Also outside the lockdown area, tradies will be allowed to visit a home if they won’t have contact with anyone while they are there.

Both of these things are still off the cards in the eight local government areas in lockdown.

How do we know about the lockdown extension?

Question Blog Team, how does the ABC “know” that the lockdown in Sydney is going to be extended by 4 weeks?

-How do you know….

Because our reporters do…well…reporting. Our New South Wales team is constantly trying to figure out what’s happening for you all outside of the daily updates, and in this case we’ve been able to report it before the press conference today.

Some more questions before more press conferences

Any news on Brisbane’s masks-off date? Still this Friday at 6am?

-Masked Brisbanite

Nope. No news on the mask mandate from today’s update I’m afraid.

Any word on exposure sites as a result of the QLD hostel case?

-Not good

Has contract tracing been done on the backpacker case? Just looked on website but cannot find anything. Thank you for the blog.

-from qld

Often the expsosure sites can come after (or sometimes before) confirmation of a new case. So if you’re not seeing them yet, it’s best to check back later today to see if the list of exposure sites have been updated. You can see the full list here

Do we take it that Victorians will not be allowed to travel to Queensland while on this level of restrictions ( two weeks)????

-Victorian Desperately needing a Queensland holiday

No idea sorry! Queensland Health Minister Yvette D’Ath didn’t tell us how long the hot spot declaration would remain in place for Victoria, only that it was staying for now.

How did a backpacker gain entry into Australia?

-Back packer???

The person was an Australian citizen who lives in Western Australia. Apologies, missed that in the flurry of the Queensland update earlier.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath says the vaccine rollout in Queensland will slow down

She said that she knows that in August, Queensland will receive about 81,000 Pfizer vaccine doses per week.

She said that’s actually down from the 100,000 Queensland was getting a month ago.

As a result, she said that Queensland wouldn’t be able to vaccinate at the same rate it was a month ago.

“We’re still going to have to slow down and tell people their bookings will be October, November, December,” she said.

She asked Prime Minister Scott Morrison to source more Pfzier vaccines this year.

“We need to make sure we’re getting as many Pfzier vaccine into the country right now,” she said.

I missed this one in the rush earlier, but Queensland authorities are also monitoring the crew of the bulk carrier MV Sanyu off the Queensland coast.

Queensland police say the behaviour of a Sydney tradie and a flight attendant was “disappointing”

Despite that, they said they now believe they’ve got all the information they needed to properly contract trace their movements going forward.

You can read more about the pair in this story here.

And CHO Jeanette Young said she’s written to the NRL find out what happened with a player allegedly breaking quaratine rules. She said once she got more information she’d be able to say more about what might happen.

Queensland CHO Jeanette Young “increasingly” concerned

She said this was the 13th “incursion” of the coronavirus into Queensland in the last six weeks.

“It is becoming increasingly concerning we are having these repeated incursions of the virus into Queensland. So thank you very much to those more than 17,000 people who came out and got tested yesterday. This is what we must continue to do going forward,” she said.

She said those at the backpackers could have “gone anywhere in Queensland”.

“It’s really, really important, please, anyone in Queensland, any symptoms at all to come forward and get tested. Second thing, masks are critical. We know they make a difference and I’m sure they’ve played a role in why we have not had widespread community transmission from any of these 13 incursions of the virus. So that’s really, really important but most importantly of all, you are sick, please stay home and immediately get tested,” she said.

QLD border restrictions with Victoria and South Australia to stay

Here’s Yvette D’Ath:

“Based on the decisions made by the Victorian government and the South Australian government yesterday to lift their lockdown but to continue to have a very high level of restrictions in those states, we will continue to declare Victoria and South Australia as hot spots which will mean that there are only certain eligible people to come to Queensland,” she said.

The people who are eligible are:

  • Queensland residents returning to Queensland
  • People who have been granted a special exemption

The Minister said from Friday, those returning to Queensland would be able to quarantine at home, with some exceptions.

“We will allow these people to quarantining at home instead of hotel quarantine. With all the home quarantine with very significant compliance and enforcement of compliance and is anyone is found to be in breach of that, not only can they be fined but also can be required to go into hotel quarantine,” she said.
