Thousands of Cubans have joined one of the country’s largest anti-government demonstrations in memory to protest against poor economic conditions and the slow COVID-19 vaccination rollouts.
Protests in the capital of Havana disrupted traffic until police moved in after several hours.
Police initially trailed behind as protesters chanted, “freedom”, “enough” and “unite.”
“We are fed up with the queues, the shortages. That’s why I’m here,” one protester, who declined to identify himself in fear of being arrested, told The Associated Press.
