Australians have been warned to avoid a simple mistake that could delay their tax return.
According to the Australian Taxation Office, many residents forget to include all sources of income, which is the number one reason tax returns and refunds are delayed.
“We know people are eager to get their hands on their tax refund, as we had over 172,000 individual 2021 tax lodgements on July 1,” assistant commissioner Tim Loh said.
“We understand the rush to get a refund as fast as possible, but racing to lodge your return can often lead to easily avoidable mistakes.”
He suggested waiting until the end of July so the ATO could add all relevant information to an individual’s tax return.
