A Russian An-26 plane with the tail number RA-26085 is seen in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Search teams have found the wreckage of a passenger plane which was carrying more than two dozen people when it disappeared in Russia’s remote far eastern peninsula of Kamchatka.

“Rescuers found the wreckage of the aircraft. Given the geographic features of the landscape, rescue operations are difficult,” the country’s aviation agency said in a statement.

It added that the debris was found along the region’s Pacific coast.

The An-26 was flying from Kamchatka’s main city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to the coastal town of Palana when it disappeared and failed to land as scheduled, Valentina Glazova, a spokeswoman for the local transport prosecutor’s office, said.
